Cindy McAfee

Cindy McAfee

Owner, RSSW

Cindy McAfee is a graduate of the Georgian College Social Service Worker program and is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and The Ontario Social Service Worker Association.

She has over 11 years of experience serving Barrie and the surrounding area by supporting Individuals, Couples, Families, Youth & Teens through healing and growth.

Cindy uses Evidence-Based Modalities such as Gottman Couples Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP), Applied Suicide Intervention, and Addictions Counselling. Cindy has facilitated groups at Barrie Withdrawal Management Services and Facilitates Group Counselling sessions with various life issues, she also has extensive experience with Self-Esteem Groups for Women.

She is a Gottman 7PP Educator and is trained in Screening for Domestic Violence, Family Mediation, and New Ways for Families Mediation.

Cindy has a client centered individual approach that is trailered to each client’s specific needs and goals. She works with individuals by creating a treatment plan to help them achieve goals that are set out in the beginning of counselling, and fundamentally believes that each person is inherently the expert on themselves for them to live their best life.

“There are two great days in a person’s life- the day we are born and the day we discover why”, Willian Barclay. Ron McAfee owned his own construction company for 35 years. Wanting change, he returned to school and graduated with Honors from Northern College Social Service Worker Program. Ron is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and Ontario Social Service Workers Association.

Ron enjoys working with clients to develop skills and provide them tools to identify triggers and manage emotional issues particularly anger and rage in individual and group sessions.

Ron enjoys using his experience, creativity, solution focused, outside of the box uncommon sense and humor to create a safe environment client’s can identify and explore their hopes, goals, obstacles and challenges to create habits, systems and a step by step written plan to affect lasting positive change.

Saarah Khan

Saarah Khan

Saarah is an Honors graduate of Yorkville University’s, Master’s in Counselling Psychology Program. She is currently in the midst of pursuing her licensing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Prior to this she had graduated with Honors from Seneca College’s Social Service Worker Program and is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and The Ontario Social Service Worker Association. Saarah has also obtained an Honors BA within the Multicultural Indigenous Studies Program from York University receiving an additional certification in Anti-Racist Research Practice.

She has extensive experience working in the field of mental health and has worked with clients dealing with but not limited to concurrent disorders, addictions, trauma, stress, marital issues, grief, depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD. Supporting individual clients, families, couples, youth, and teens in reaching their personal goals.

Saarah has a commitment to practice with anti-oppressive and non-judgmental frameworks. Further exemplified through her clinical grounding rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Strengths Based Resilience (SBR), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, holistic, and client-centered care. She supports client’s with discovering their inner strengths and works collaboratively to create personalized treatment plans conducive to their overall health & wellbeing.

Dr. Pickard

Dr. Matthew Pickard Community Partner

Ph. D., M.Sc., C. Psyc

Dr. Pickard is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.

After completing his master’s degree in community counselling, he worked in the intellectual disability field completing assessments. Three years later, he attended the University of Central Arkansas and graduated with his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, which is accredited by the American Psychological Association.

Although not an exhaustive list, some of the more common diagnoses Dr. Pickard is familiar with include depression, anxiety, trauma such as PTSD, and substance use. He also has experience working with student-athletes and individuals who have chronic pain, and concussions.

Dr. Pickard is trained in evidenced-based practices including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), among others, and believes strongly in the common factors in therapy. He also believes that valuable information can be attained through assessments, and enjoys completing therapeutic assessments.

Dr. Pickard

Deborah Alton Community Partner

B.A., N.L.P., M.A.C.P., R.P.

Deborah specializes in working with couples, individuals, separated, divorced and high conflict families conducting assessments, mediation, reintegration/reintegration therapy, parent- child contact problems, professional consultations, court testimony, therapy, voice of the child reports, collaborative processed separations, custody and access assessments, parenting coordination/arbitration and therapeutic services for children and families impacted by divorce. She provides training to lawyers and mental health professionals and has presented at numerous workshops and conferences.

Deborah is the founder of the Reflection Centre and maintains an independent private practice. She is a long-standing member and on the board of the Simcoe County Collaborative Practice. She belongs to the AFCC, and OACC and served on the board as the programming director for Seasons Centre for Grieving Children. Deborah is a Clinical supervisor and provides training and professional development for Social Workers and Psychotherapists. She is a long-term group facilitator providing three month and ten-month therapeutic services to children, adolescents and adults.

Deborah's goal is to provide child-focused services, assist couples and parents in reducing conflict, and guide families to improve the overall wellbeing of children and families.

Deirdre Maloney Community Partner

Holistic Healing Mentor

Deirdre is inspiring people to recognize their full potential in living a wholehearted life. Through her writing she helps individuals feel understood and sets an example of self-acceptance.

Although Deirdre struggled with low self worth, depression, anxiety and drug abuse, she was able to rise above the setbacks to truly create the life of her dreams. Deirdre is on a mission to turn her pain into purpose; helping others connect to themselves in a time where we are so disconnected from self and from others.

She is the founder of HighGate Racing; Canada’s largest all female competitive cycling team with an initiative to keep young women in sport. She has a sponsorship program for the Youth Development Team, providing financial aid and life skills to help these young women harness their power as athletes, students and community members.

Deirdre is also the co-founder of a women’s healing circle in her community; offering a safe environment for women to share their struggles, fears and pain. She helps guide them to a path of healing.

She is an Author, Speaker, and Wellness Influencer.
